What the tool counts in Excel

The counter reads stored, visible cell values where available, so it measures the text you can actually read in the workbook. It ignores formula expressions such as =SUM(A1:A5), because formulas are not part of the readable content most people want to count.

When a workbook stores formula result values in the file data, the tool counts those results instead. By default, it includes all readable workbook text, including content in hidden sheets and hidden rows, so totals reflect everything contained in the file.
