Counts may also differ from Microsoft Word or Google Docs because those tools use different rules for handling hyphenation, footnotes, text boxes, and special characters. For the most consistent result, use a PDF that was exported from a text document and make sure the text is selectable.

Does the tool work with scanned PDFs?
